What is Fonomarae?
FONOMARAE
The word "fonomarae" is an amalgam of two words.
"Fono" is used in Polynesia to describe a gathering of people.
"Marae" in Maori, is used to describe a significant meeting place.
Fonomarae Camp in Malaysia was first held in 1981 in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan; and it is held once every four years or five.
1981 - 1st Fonomarae @ Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan
1985 - 2nd Fonomarae @ Malaya University, Kuala Lumpur
1988 - 3rd Fonomarae (Golden Jubilee Fonomarae) @Kuala Lumpur celebrating 50 years GB in M'sia
1988 - 3rd Fonomarae (Golden Jubilee Fonomarae) @Kuala Lumpur celebrating 50 years GB in M'sia
1993 - 4rd Fonomarae (REACHING OUT Centenary Celebration) @ Kuching, Sarawak
1998 - 5th Fonomarae (60th Anniversary Celebrations) @ Sibu, Sarawak
2001 - 6th Fonomarae (MILLENIUM) @ Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan
2006 - 7th Fonomarae (God's Great Outdoor) @ Wetlands, Putrajaya
FONOMARAE 2011 @ Kuala Kubu Bharu
Fonomarae 2011 is the 8th Fonomarae to be held. This year's theme is taken from our GB International vision statement - Girls' Lives Transformed, God's World Enriched
A gathering of GB girls from all over Malaysia is always an exciting event. The opportunity for girls to participate in activities and play together promotes understanding of each other. We help bridge the gap of East and West Malaysia, from towns and cities to rural areas. Fonomarae is a big event for us and invited memnbers from Asia Pacific Region also enrich our cultural experiences as we play host.
